Texas Baseball sweeps Baylor, hits 6-game win streak

Parker Joe Robinson picked up his second win of the season as the Longhorns cranked out 13 hits on Friday night to defeat Baylor 9-5 at Disch-Falk Field. Both Tate Shaw and DJ Petrinski led Texas with 3 RBI’s a piece and the Texas bullpen gave up just one run over 7 innings.

Texas continued its winning ways on Saturday, starting junior righthander Chase Shugart on the mound in mid-40 degree weather. Shugart pitched seven innings, giving up five hits and no runs.  Kody Clemens hit his 9th homer of the season in the first inning, and DJ Petrinksi added another run in the third inning on a throwing error by Baylor. The Longhorns would hold on to a 2-0 lead for the remainder of the game, defeating Baylor for the second straight game.

The Longhorns completed the sweep of the Bears on Sunday by jumping out to a three run lead in the first inning, and followed up with seven solid innings from starting pitcher Blair Henley. Henley gave up a solo home run  in the second inning, the only run Baylor wouldscore in the game. DJ Petrinski doubled in the eighth to score David Hamilton, and Josh Sawyer would close things out to earn his first save of the season.

With the series sweep of the Bears, Texas improves to 22-12 overall and 9-3 in Big 12 play. The Longhorns currently hold a 6-game winning streak.

Texas travels next to College Station on Tuesday to take on Texas A&M before beginning a 3-game series against Oklahoma on Friday in Norman.
