On Thursday, just days after Mo Bamba announced his decision to leave Texas early and declare for the NBA Draft, the Longhorns lost another underclassmen. Sophmore guard Jacob Young announced his decision to transfer to another program.
Young, who attended Yates High School in Houston, played in 33 games as a freshman and started in five of them. This season he averaged 6.2 points per game and 16.8 minutes per game.
He notched a career-high 29 points on March 8 against Texas Tech in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament.
“I appreciate all of the effort that Jacob has given to our University over the past two seasons,” Texas head coach Shaka Smart said in a released statement.
The departure of Mohamed Bamba and now Jacob Young leave Smart with decisions to make and depth to fill in a program that finished the season 19-15 (tied for 6th in the Big 12).
