Sophmore infielder David Hamilton hit his first home run as a Longhorn on a rainy Tuesday night in San Marcos, and Texas (16-10) defeated Texas State (14-9-1) by the score of 6-1.

After three scoreless innings, the Longhorns struck first in the fourth with RBI’s by Mason Hibbeler, Zach Zubia and Austin Todd to take a 3-0 lead. With rain in the area, the tarp was placed on the field in the fifth inning

Hamilton’s two-run homer in the 8th inning gave the Longhorns a 5-0 lead and Ryan Reynolds’ RBI single in the top of the ninth found the Longhorns with a 6-0 advantage headed to the bottom of the ninth.

Mickey Scott’s pinch-hit RBI single put the Bobcats on the board to cut the Texas lead to 6-1, but Beau Ridgeway would end the game by forcing Jaylen Hubbard to ground out to second base.

The Longhorns will face Kansas State in a 3-game series in Manhattan, Kansas beginning on Thursday at 6:30 PM.
