Texas LB Demarco Boyd suspended following misdemeanor assault charge

LB Demarco Boyd was expected to turn himself into Travis County jail to be released Thursday after an incident in downtown Austin on Fourth of July.

Coach Herman announced Thursday, “We are aware of the situation with Demarco Boyd and have suspended him from all team activities at this time. We will continue to monitor the legal process and, pending its completion, determine any further action,”

The alleged assault was committed following a three car collision on July 4 in West Austin.

Demarco Boyd denied having any contact with Lucas Kincade, the driver to initially cause the accident, after attempting to brake in wet conditions. Kincade was visiting from out of town and claims that when he got out of his vehicle to inspect the damage he was assaulted by Boyd. Witnesses have verified to police the proceedings leading up to the incident and Boyd has been charged with a class A misdemeanor for an assault with injury.

The redshirt sophomore played in four games a season ago, mostly on special teams.

Kris Boyd, Demarco’s older brother, tweeted after the accident, “Our angels had hands over us today. Got rear ended and smashed! We’re doing a lot better. Thank you to those who reached out. Could’ve been gone but here.”

CB Kris Boyd lead the Big 12 with 15 pass breakups last season.
