AUSTIN, Texas — Texas football coach Tom Herman confirmed Thursday that he accompanied Ohio State assistant Zach Smith on a trip to a Miami strip club when they were on the Buckeyes’ staff.
Herman, in his first comments since the information was first reported as part of Ohio State’s independent investigation, said his wife was aware of the trip and had no issue with it.
Herman, meeting with the media on Thursday afternoon after the Longhorns’ final full practice in preparation for their season-opening game against Maryland on Saturday in Landover, Maryland also said he would be happy to cooperate “with the NCAA if they so need me to be.”
Herman’s full statement reads:
“What was reported was four-and-a-half years ago when I was an assistant coach,” Herman said. “My wife knew exactly where I was and had no issue with it. I’m happy to cooperate, and be honest, truthful and transparent with the NCAA if they so need me to be.
“But I understand the responsibility that comes with being the head coach at the University of Texas, and I take that responsibility very, very seriously. Right now, that responsibility includes me being laser-like focused on preparing our team to win a game in less than 48 hours in Washington D.C.”
