Texas wanted to win so badly in the season opener Saturday against Maryland that the Longhorns tightened up in the game’s biggest moments.
Head coach Tom Herman shared that assessment Monday morning on the Big 12 conference call.
But Herman, who is 7-7 since taking over at Texas, also said he has a more cohesive and disciplined team in 2018. While panic and alarm levels are up in Austin from the UT fanbase, Herman is keeping an even keel.
“Even though the results in the two openers may certainly appear similar to the general public or fan, they felt much different to me and our staff and our team,” Herman said.
Herman said Monday he was pleased with quarterback Sam Ehlinger save for a few throws on third down.
“I thought he played well,” Herman said, adding Ehlinger checked the team into multiple positive plays.
