Texas coach Tom Herman said that junior safety Brandon Jones has practiced well the last two days and will play against USC on Saturday after he missed last week’s 28-21 win over Tulsa with a left ankle injury.
Jones had 10 tackles against Maryland and averaged 18.7 yards on three punt returns, on two of which he nearly got loose and into clear field.
“If Jones has not been in class or sleeping in his bed, he’s been in the facility getting treatment,” Herman said. “He was a little sore last night, but he looked great in practice (Thursday).”
Herman also said center Zach Shackelford (foot) is out and that running back Keaontay Ingram (knee) is highly doubtful for the USC game.
Freshman linebacker Ayodele Adeoye, who missed the last two weeks of preseason camp and the first two games with a knee injury, has been practicing and is expected to make his debut on Saturday.
Herman said receiver John Burt (foot) and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown (knee) are still at least a week away from returning.
