Texas defeated Kansas State on Saturday in a game offensive coordinator Tim Beck missed after being hospitalized due to an infection.
The infection in Beck’s elbow worsened last week. His fever spiked Wednesday and Beck was hospitalized to administer IV antibiotics.
Beck underwent surgery on Thursday to “clean out the infection,” according to Texas coach Tom Herman. Herman added that the situation was serious but “not life-threatening.”
With Beck hospitalized and unavailable to travel, Texas was granted permission from the NCAA for offensive assistant Jordan Salkin to be temporarily elevated to assist Herman with play-calling for the Kansas State game.
Salkin, Texas’ assistant quarterbacks coach, was hired in May 2017.
