The accolades kept rolling in on Wednesday for quarterback Sam Ehlinger, who was named the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week in addition to being added to the Maxwell Award watch list.
The Maxwell Award honors the Player of the Year in college football as determined by the Maxwell Football Club, while the weekly Davey O’Brien honor is awarded to the top FBS quarterback every week during the season. The Davey O’Brien Fan Vote also gives fans a chance to play a role in who wins the honor.
Ehlinger has thrown for 1,499 yards and 11 touchdowns against just two interceptions through the Texas Longhorns’ first six games. That includes going 24-of-35 passing for 314 yards and two touchdowns while adding 72 yards and three TDs on the ground in last Saturday’s 48-45 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Showdown.
Ehlinger has now attempted a school-record 163 passes without throwing an interception, and the sophomore has passed for at least 200 yards in all 12 of his career starts.
This week, Ehlinger has also has been named Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week, Maxwell Award Player of the Week,Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week, Manning Star of the Week and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.
