Texas Longhorns quarterback Sam Ehlinger was added Thursday to the Manning Award watch list, which is presented to the top quarterback in the nation each season.
The award is sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, with finalists scheduled to be announced on Nov. 29. The winner will be announced after the College Football Playoff National Championship game.
Ehlinger has thrown for 1,534 yards and 11 touchdowns against only two interceptions this season, and has attempted 168 passes since his last pick, the longest streak in school history.
Ehlinger, who is recovering from a shoulder injury during the team’s bye week, has thrown for at least 200 yards in each of the Longhorns’ first six games this season. That includes completing 24-of-35 passes for 314 yards and two touchdowns in the marquee victory over the Oklahoma Sooners, a game in which he also rushed for 72 yards and three touchdowns.
