Four-star athlete Peyton Powell committed to the Texas Longhorns’ Class of 2019 on Tuesday.
The Odessa Permian senior announced his decision, choosing the Horns over offers from a slew of major programs including Ohio State, Oklahoma, TCU and Texas Tech. Powell rescheduled his official visit to Austin twice before being on campus for Texas’ victory over Baylor on Oct. 3.

Howell transferred from Midland Christian to Permian last summer in order to be an option quarterback. He projects best as a defensive back for the Longhorns, although he could get a shot at wide receiver as well with his reported 4.4 speed.
“I loved everything about it,” Powell told InsideTexas.com last week about his visit to Austin. “Just really everything. The coaching staff, the stability, and the special things that are about to happen in Austin.”
Powell is the 19th member of coach Tom Herman’s 2019 Class.
